Younger People in Residential Aged Care initiative

Purpose

The Younger People in Residential Aged Care initiative is a Council of Australian Governments' (COAG) initiative. The Queensland and Commonwealth governments have each committed $23.9 million in funding over a five-year period to reduce the number of younger people with a disability living in residential aged care facilities. Disability Services Queensland has responsibility for implementing this initiative in Queensland.

The Younger People in Residential Aged Care initiative will assist younger people with a disability in residential aged care to move to more appropriate accommodation, divert younger people who are at risk of admission to residential aged care, and provide disability support for younger people who remain in residential aged care.

Disability Services Queensland has developed a continuum of support models to provide a range of supported accommodation options to younger people with a disability under this initiative. Priority of access to support through this initiative is given to people under the age of 50 years.
