Carers support initiatives

The Queensland Government released the Carer Recognition Policy (PDF 188kB) in 2003 (updated in 2007) which was the first of its kind in Australia. This was followed by the release of the Queensland Government Carer Action Plan 2006-10 (PDF 217kB) which contained a number of initiatives to support Queensland carers. Both documents recognise the valuable role carers play as well as providing tangible benefits for carers and the people they care for.

The Carer Business Discount Card and the Companion Card (see below) are two initiatives from the Queensland Government Carer Action Plan 2006-10. Both these initiatives provide an opportunity for Queensland businesses to recognise the significant contributions made by carers to the Queensland community.
