Carers Advisory Council
Carers can be friends, neighbours and family members. Carers sometimes live with the person they care for, but not always. They are not paid for their work.
The Carers Advisory Council will be established as part of the implementation of the Carers (Recognition) Act 2008.
The Council's functions include:
- Working to advance the interests of carers and to promote compliance by public authorities such as Queensland Government departments with the Queensland Carers Charter.
- Making recommendations to the Minister for Disability Services on enhancing compliance by public authorities with the Queensland Carers Charter.
- Providing general advice to the Minister for Disability Services on matters relating to carers.
- Carrying out other functions as directed by the Minister for Disability Services.
The ten member council will consist of three carers, three representatives of different carer organisations and four public servants. Members will be selected to serve on the council for a term of up to two years.
The Office for Carers will provide secretariat support to the Carers Advisory Council, as well as support the Council in its consultation and research agenda.
