Tim Morrissey
Tim Morrissey My son Tim and I went to the park along the Coolangatta beachfront for a walk one day about three years ago. We passed a man with a big long red beard and dirty clothes. We stopped and walked back and said hello to this fellow with his head in his hands, and wondered why we have people in society that are not visible to us. We asked the fellow if we gave him $50 would he buy some breakfast and he graciously accepted.
When we returned from our walk, there he was eating and also feeding three friends. Once again we stopped and asked if we would offend him by cooking him breakfast the following Saturday. He said that would be great and we have been doing this now for nearly three years.
Tim is head chef every Saturday with three to five staff (people from the community) following his every direction. We have an average of 30 to 50 marginalised and homeless people every Saturday and have now started Sundays.
Last year we also had Christmas in the Park for 120 people. Tim compered the event with his sound system and 'mike' and ran the dance competitions.
