Shannon Wagner - Springsure

Close-up of Shannon Wagner smiling outside Shannon Wagner from Springsure

"Disabled" is just a label that society has given me and people like me. I don't see myself as disabled at all, because I am unique. Everyone is unique and if others think I'm "different" then the truth is, so are they.

Just because I am confined to a wheelchair, doesn't mean I can't do anything for myself. I can do lots of things and I value my independence. Diversity is what makes the world interesting. The world wouldn't function properly and would be very boring and predictable if everyone were the same.

I see my disability as a blessing, not as an adversity. Having a disability has taught me invaluable things that I may not have learned if I was able bodied.

Diversity is what makes the world interesting.

I don't ridicule people about how they appear on the outside. I see the beauty within people. To me, if you are a good person who does good things, hey, that's all that matters. Having a disability has taught me to keep a positive frame of mind and to go on living no matter what challenges I face.

Also, it has taught me how lucky we all are to be living life. I see so many people living good lives but who still complain. Things could have been much worse. Life is something to be treasured!
