Nicholas Chapple - Worongary

Nicholas on the grass with a football Nicholas Chapple from Worongary

Our son Nicholas was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome at age five.

At 10 years old, he wanted to try playing AFL. We signed him up for Auskick and the Broadbeach Football Club.

At his first game, the opposition team was short several players and Nicholas volunteered to play for them.

I explained to the coach about him and he put Nicholas on the field.

We were amazed at his game. He kicked goals and put in a best-on-ground performance and then insisted on singing the club song with his new team mates.

We are proud of his achievements in participating in a contact sport, trying his best, and not allowing the Asperger's syndrome to slow him down.

The opposition coach asked if we would consider bringing him to their club!

Nicholas played for two years for Broadbeach. We are proud of his achievements in participating in a contact sport, trying his best, and not allowing the Asperger's syndrome to slow him down.
