Casey Gould - Cooroy

Casey on a hammock smiling Casey Gould from Cooroy

Casey was born with craniostenosis, a condition where the usually moveable bones of the skull are fused.

Casey's brain could not grow normally and his forehead began to jut out. He was referred to a neurosurgeon and underwent a four-hour operation to remove pieces of his skull, allowing his brain and skull to grow properly.

We did not notice any developmental delays until he was not walking or talking after 12 months.

For the last three years he has been attending occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy every week, plus we work with him at home.

Wish us luck as there are many fears and barriers associated with inclusion.

He has successfully attended day care three days a week and is now preparing to go to the new prep year for three days a week. As parents we are opting for mainstream, full inclusion for Casey in year 1. We want him to stay in class and we will help with tutoring at home.

Wish us luck as there are many fears and barriers associated with inclusion.
