Australian Broadcasting Corporation producer and media personality Dr Norman Swan inspired the crowd to think outside the square with his keynote address at this year's National Cerebral Palsy Australia Conference, themed'Thinking outside the chair'.

The Gold Coast hosted the May event, which called for innovation, creativity and collaboration towards improving the lives of those with cerebral palsy. Delegates attended discussions and workshops that focused on service, research and arts and leisure.

President of Cerebral Palsy Australia, John Knowles, says investing in services and service innovation requires commitment. "It means challenging the status quo and advancing innovation," he says.

"Access to the arts and leisure is critical to all of us - our soul food. A life where we have choices in how we live, work, rest and play is both enriching and empowering. The key in all of this is to think outside the chair."

The Queensland Government sponsored the conference.
