International Day of People with Disability
Celebrated each year on 3 December
The purpose of the day is to promote the achievements of people with disability, to create awareness of disability issues and the benefits gained by creating an inclusive society.
International Day of People with Disability is an opportunity to unite disability and community organisations, people with disabilities, businesses, all levels of government and the wider community to promote the positive message of inclusion.
Disability Services Queensland supports community organisations to celebrate International Day of People with Disability through the Building Supportive Communities Grants program.
Community organisations which received funding to hold activities or events to celebrate International Day of People with Disability in 2008 include:
- Redlands Bayside Disability Services
- Community Access and Transition Services
- Ozcare
- Beenleigh Police Citizens and Youth Club
- Graham House Community Care Centre
- ARC Disability Services
International Day of People with Disability is coordinated by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).
