Building capacity and increasing capability
The Disability Sector Quality System project team has taken a developmental approach to build capacity and increase capability across the sector.
Building capacity
The quality system project team is building the sector’s capacity by:
- establishing partnerships/joint projects with key sector groups including service provider and service user peak bodies
- providing workshops, information and direct assistance to raise awareness and interest
- providing financial assistance to help service providers meet the costs of development, implementation, certification and maintenance of their quality management system
- developing publications, tools and resources to support a range of service users with specific communication needs to actively participate in the system and involving stakeholders in all stages of their development
- providing information and resources for the department’s regional staff to support them in their role with services.
Increasing capability
The quality system project team is also implementing a range of strategies to increase the sector’s capability and create sustainability of the system by:
- developing and distributing tools and resources for service providers and service users
- developing and coordinating workshops and training sessions for the sector
- establishing a learning and organisational development panel to support service providers
- providing ongoing support and skills development for the department’s regional staff
- establishing networks and promoting mentoring between service providers.
