Step 4: Continuous improvement

In the first step of implementation, service providers should develop the foundation for continuous improvement planning. In Step 4, service providers work from that foundation and establish a plan for continuous improvement.

Service providers should establish effective communication systems and implement a plan, do, check, act cycle - refer to Resource Kit 3 (PDF 783 kB). Actions in the continuous improvement plan should be implemented at this stage and it is important to support service-wide participation in this continuous monitoring and improvement cycle.

If they’re not already doing so, service providers should address the causes of problems and monitor the effectiveness of changes using an internal audit program. Any quality controls should also be established and implemented at this stage.
