Transitional period requirements
There is a transitional period (from 1 July 2008 to 31 December 2009) to allow service providers time to prepare and plan to meet the new requirements under the legislation.
During this time, service providers can only use restrictive practices as long as they follow some basic requirements as listed in the Act.
The transitional period ends on 31 December 2009 or when the relevant decision maker under the full requirements of the Act makes a decision about whether or not to approve the restrictive practice.
After the transitional period ends or stops applying, service providers must comply with the full requirements of the Act.
Read Disability Services Queensland’s new policies and procedures (including transitional policies and procedures) to find out more about the transitional period and for an outline of the full requirements for service providers.
The department has also outlined four basic steps to help service providers meet the legislative requirements.
