Have your say: On improving disability services in Queensland
In 2004, Disability Services Queensland released the consultation paper: Have Your Say: On improving disability services in Queensland, which outlined proposed improvement strategies in five key areas:
- needs assessment
- prioritisation
- four programs
- services
- funding.
Proposed improvements include introducing person-to-person needs assessment for individuals and families seeking services from the department, and streamlining the existing program structure into four programs - Community, Family, Individual and High Support.
During the Have Your Say consultation period, which concluded in May 2005, the department received feedback on the proposed reforms through 99 face-to-face sessions across the state, a three day phone-in, and 557 written submissions via email, fax, post and website.
This feedback has been summarised into an information paper on Consultation Feedback which outlines who participated, what individuals and organisations said about the proposed improvements strategies and what the responses to these strategies mean. You can also download a Word-compatible version of the Consultation Feedback. From this version, web users can change font size, use a screen reader or convert this document to Braille.
Feedback has identified aspects of the proposed improvements that require further refinement and will also be used to inform an interim report to the Queensland Government outlining implementation options. Once the Government has indicated its preferred approach, Disability Services Queensland will develop an action plan for implementation of the improvement strategies.
