Leading by example

We promote the participation and inclusion of people with a disability

We stage and support inclusive community events, such as:

We support social networks and opportunities by promoting events, resources and community programs on our website and in Community Connect, the department's magazine for the disability sector, government staff, people with a disability, their families and carers.

We promote access to services through the Disability Information Service.

We also engage the corporate and government sectors in disability specific activities through sponsorships and other corporate links. This contributes to greater awareness, integration and support for people with a disability.

We promote the value, contribution and potential of people with a disability though our community awareness publications and strategies, such as:

Disability Action Week Awards

The Awards recognise those who make a positive contribution to the lives of people with a disability.

A Way with Words

This publication is a guide to the positive portrayal of people with a disability.

Share Your Story

Each year we call on the community for people to come forward and share their story about living with a disability. More than 30,000 Share Your Story calendars are distributed state-wide each year.

Better Communication Postcards

These postcards are available through SCS to raise awareness about barriers to communication.
