Q: What is Disability Services Queensland?

A: Disability Services Queensland (DSQ) is the first disability focussed department in Queensland. We work closely with people with a disability and their families to plan and provide high quality services to and enhance the inclusion of people with a disability in the community. Prior to our formation in 1999, the disability program was part of Family Youth and Community Care Queensland.

A: The Disability Council of Queensland provides advice to the Minister for Disability Services, monitors the implementation of the Queensland Government Strategic Framework for Disability and facilitates the development of relationships between government and people with a disability, their families, service providers and the community.

Q: How can Queenslanders with a disability and their families have input into the decisions which affect them?

A: A network of Regional Disability Councils has been established to work with local communities, our Regional Offices and the Disability Council of Queensland to raise local awareness of disability issues, strengthen the capacity of people with a disability and their families to participate in decision making, and facilitate partnership at a regional level.
