More than 460 delegates attended the 2006 Shared Visions disability conference. The conference was an opportunity for people from throughout the Queensland disability sector to work in partnership to create a better future for people with a disability and their carers.

Delegates at the conference shared best practice examples, formed networks and were part of a dynamic process to identify the next steps in creating a positive and vibrant future for the Queensland disability sector.

The process was led by internationally recognised futurist Dr Sohail Inayatullah and included keynote speeches, workshops and panel sessions.

The two-day conference focused on the themes and issues raised by delegates at the 2005 conference, including:

  1. supporting inclusive communities
  2. sustainable informal networks
  3. enhancing service provision through technology and collaboration
  4. emerging issues.

Keynote speakers, panel sessions and workshops focused on these themes, exploring creative approaches, new strategies and developments across the disability sector.

A total of 16 workshop presentations were presented by sector representatives. Each workshop included a discussion to consider how the information and experiences presented could be applied to develop key steps and actions.

At the end of each day Dr Sohail Inayatullah lead a panel session to share workshop outcomes and delegates took the opportunity to share their views, ideas and visions for the future of disability in Queensland.
