About Shared Visions

Participation was the word in the Sound Circles workshop at the 2006 Shared Visions conference

The Shared Visions initiative brings people together to share their views, network and work together for a better future for people with a disability, people with a mental illness, their families and carers.

2005 Shared Visions Conference

The initiative began with the 2005 Shared Visions Conference to explore the future of disability services in Queensland. The sector responded enthusiastically to this opportunity to share best practice, form networks and be part of a process for identifying strategies to create a positive future.

2006 Shared Visions: Next Steps

In 2006, a second conference further explored the themes raised by delegates at the 2005 event. Themes included:

  1. supporting inclusive communities
  2. sustainable informal networks
  3. enhancing service provision through technology and collaboration
  4. emerging issues.

2007 Shared Visions regional forums

In 2007, eleven Shared Visions regional forums were held across Queensland between July and October. This allowed regional Queenslanders to showcase local initiatives and journey towards a better future for people with a disability.

The outcomes of the regional forums are helping to shape the next statewide conference to be held in 2009.

By bringing together people with a disability, people with a mental illness, their families and carers, service providers, government and corporate partners, Shared Visions is helping to build a strong and dynamic disability community in Queensland.
