Disability Council of Queensland

The Disability Council of Queensland comprises people with a disability, family members and service providers from across the State. The council was established to provide advice to the Minister on a range of issues that affect the broader community in relation to disability services.

Membership of the Disability Council of Queensland is made up of the chairs of each of the ten different Regional Disability Councils with an independent chair.

This Disability Council of Queensland was formally appointed on 10 December 2007 for a three-year term, with the role of deputy chair rotating every 12 months. The DCQ meets twice a year.

The responsibilities of the Disability Council of Queensland (DCQ) include:

• To provide advice to the Minister for Disability Services on the development and implementation of key strategic policies in the Disability Services Queensland Strategic Plan and the whole of government approach to disability services, from a statewide perspective.
• To provide advice to the Minister for Disability Services on major initiatives and systemic issues impacting on services to people with a disability and their family and carers.
• To provide a mechanism for the provision of advice to the Minister for Disability Services, on directions for strategic research in the disability field.
• At the Minister’s direction, to consult with the National Disability Advisory Council on matters of broad national significance that impact on people with disabilities, their family and carers.
