About the Building Supportive Communities Grants
The Building Supportive Communities Grants (formerly known as the Building Inclusive Communities Grants) has been supporting local initiatives since 2002–03.
The purpose of the program is to strengthen the capacity of local communities to welcome and include people with a disability in everyday life.
The objectives of the program are to:
- promote community awareness and understanding of the experiences of people with a disability
- build awareness of the need to improve access for people with a disability
- provide opportunities for people with a disability to make a visible and valued contribution to community activities
- provide opportunities for people with a disability to extend their relationships, develop skills and pursue interests
- promote inclusive practices
- encourage community organisations to collaborate in building supportive communities by linking to create events across their region.
