Accessibility focuses on removing barriers in playgrounds by carefully considering the needs of children and developing design solutions that enable children of all abilities to engage in safe and meaningful play.
- Integration of the playground, access and mobility standards.
- Engagement with an access consultant.
- Integration of rubber play area with timber ramp system, achieving maximum of 1:20 gradient.
- Minimum two-metre-wide access paths.
- Pool safety fencing around the perimeter of the half-hectare recreational park.
- Large shade sail over the playground for sun protection and mature shade trees.
- Large shade structure with accessible tables.
- Various transition zones involving different surfaces, such as rubber, bark, sand and grass.
- Safety harness and support seats.
- Rubber vines to eliminate the danger of wheelchairs, walkers and pram access.
- Varying heights of objects and tables to ensure the needs of all children are met, including those of toddlers and children in wheelchairs.
- Play equipment designed to be light-weight and easily grasped and manipulated.
- Tactile aid indicators and visual strips on treads.
- Top and bottom hand rails on either side of the steps.
