Area Manager Bunnings Queensland, Wayne LoftTwo years ago, Wayne Loft, Manager of Bunnings Stafford had 70 job vacancies he needed to fill.
Euan Joiner, Training and Placement Officer for EPIC Employment Services Inc, a specialised employment service for those who are disadvantage or who have a disability, had a number of people with a disability ready and willing to work.
Eleven EPIC clients were offered jobs at Bunnings following job match screening and a two-step interview process.
The inclusive employment practice was a success and today 10 per cent of the Bunnings team are EPIC clients.
Employed in various roles, they are required to deal with customers and wear the bright red Bunnings shirt. Many have received customer service awards following positive feedback from customers and other team members.
The inclusive employment practices of Bunnings have created positions for people with a disability in five other outlets throughout Queensland.
