The Disability Action Week Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have contributed to improving the quality of life of people with a disability in Queensland.
This year, the awards honoured the achievements of 13 award recipients across ten award categories. Winners were presented with their awards at a luncheon at the Sebel and Citigate King George Square, Brisbane, on Tuesday 16 September.

Individual Award (four recipients)
The Individual Award recognises individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to improving the quality of life of Queenslanders with a disability. Four Individual Awards were presented.

Employment Award
This award recognises employers who have made a significant contribution to providing and encouraging workplace opportunities for people with a disability.
- Nundah Community Enterprises Co-operative Ltd
Transport Award
This award recognises efforts to improve facilities and services and applauds high-level customer service to make transport a convenient, accessible option for people with a disability.
- Brisbane Bus Lines
Local and State Government Award
This award recognises the work of local and state government agencies in promoting community awareness of disability issues and delivering equity of access to Queensland Government services and facilities to people with a disability.
- Roma Street Parkland
Community Organisation Award
This award recognises the efforts of community-based organisations to change Queensland by promoting inclusive communities that celebrate diversity and provide opportunities for people with a disability.
- Open Minds – Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation and Support Service
Media Award
This award recognises media coverage that has helped to break down stereotypes of people with a disability. It is awarded for media reporting that accurately and positively portrays the achievements of people with a disability and the issues they face.

Building Accessible Housing and Environments Award
This award recognises a significant contribution to improving accessibility through policy development, and the planning, design and construction of the built environment.
- Gold Coast City Council
Education and the Arts Award
This award recognises an individual or organisation that has developed, implemented and promoted innovative and inclusive programs in the education or arts fields to assist people with a disability.
- Family Planning Queensland
Human Rights and Justice Award
This award recognises an individual, group or organisation that has established a precedent or made a sustained contribution to human rights and justice.
- Queensland Magistrates Court
Minister’s Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award was a special award made by the Minister for Disability Services, the Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr MP, at the 2008 Disability Action Week Awards.
