Director-General's message

Disability Services Queensland has taken positive steps to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to equal opportunity for people with a disability. This Plan affirms Disability Services Queensland's ongoing commitment to ensuring equitable access to our information, our built environment, our policies and practices, and to the employment opportunities we offer.

"The Department is committed to promoting the human rights of all people and to eliminating barriers..."

This Plan follows on from the Disability Discrimination Plan 2003-05 and highlights the progress and achievements that have been made. Due to the nature of discrimination, the strategies recognised in the previous Plan require ongoing attention and monitoring. Therefore, this Plan builds on those strategies and identifies key actions for the next two years.

The Plan was developed under the provisions of the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and was guided by the Queensland Government Strategic Framework for Disability 2002-05, which provides a basis for planning and developing policy and services for people with a disability.

The Department is committed to promoting the human rights of all people and to eliminating barriers that restrict access to social and economic opportunities. As part of our commitment to achieving these goals, we will take an active stance in promoting the Plan to our staff and stakeholders. We will also continue to integrate the principles of the Plan into our work environment.
