The Graduate Program offers graduates tailored comprehensive professional development and twelve months practical experience in business areas that have a focus on delivering quality services and building supportive communities. These are:
Policy, Programs and Community and Specialist Services
The key purpose of the Office of Programs, Policy and Community and Specialist Services Directorate is to enable the department to deliver on our commitment to provide the best possible services, supports and opportunities for people with a disability and their families and carers.
The functions of the Office of Programs, Policy and Community and Specialist Services are to:
- develop strategic policy and legislation and acquire funding for the disability sector
- purchase services, allocate funding and undertake overall program development and management
- provide a range of services, including needs assessment and professional and specialist services. It will co-ordinate services and assist individuals and families to develop networks of support in the community.
Accommodation Support and Respite Services, and Corporate and Executive Services
The key purpose of the Office of Corporate and Executive Services and Accommodation Support and Respite Services is to enable the departments to deliver on our commitment to provide the best possible services, supports and opportunities for each department's stakeholders.
The functions of the Office of Corporate and Executive Services and Accommodation Support and Respite Services are to:
- lead and provide executive and corporate services across Disability Services Queensland, the Department of Communities and the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy
- manage the delivery of accommodation support and respite services to people with an intellectual disability within Disability Services Queensland.

- Commitment to Disability Services Queensland's vision of a society that values people with a disability, upholds their rights and supports their equitable participation in everyday life
- Membership of target groups (people with a disability, Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds) and/or experience in providing services/solutions for community organisations/volunteer work in the helping field, participation in community fund-raising activities, committee work eg. neighbourhood watch, student councils etc
- Interest in delivering human services to meet diverse community needs and issues eg. services for people with a disability, Indigenous, ethnic, youth or ageing issues, or people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Abilities (in addition to the above personal attributes)
- Creative thinkers who have strong research and analytical skills complemented by initiative and the ability to create innovative solutions
- Effective time managers with an ability to meet tight deadlines by managing time and resources effectively
- Effective communicators to deliver logical and concise oral and written communication and excellent negotiation and interpersonal effectiveness
- Team players with the ability to engage with stakeholder groups and individuals and who are client-focussed and able to interact with colleagues to achieve common goals
- Individuals with emotional maturity and intelligence, self awareness, and an interest in personal development and advancing their career through demonstrated results.
