Graduate opportunities
Disability Services Queensland is a diverse and exciting organisation that has a strong commitment to its Graduate Development Program. The program offers a number of permanent positions for Graduate Officers each year.
We provide our graduates with an extensive Professional Development Program that will develop your leadership and personal capabilities. Tailored specifically for recent university graduates, the program provides you with considerable opportunities to develop both professionally and personally. On completion of the 12 month development program you will be equipped for higher levels of responsibility in our diverse organisation. Academic disciplines we recruit from are:
- Business (Management, Communication, Marketing, Economics, Information Technology and Human Resources)
- Social and Behavioural Sciences (Social Work/Social Planning and Psychology)
- Allied Health (Occupational Therapy; Speech and Language Pathology, Physiotherapy)
The Program provides for two six-month rotations over 12 months, or one 12-month placement (depending on area and discipline) – providing Graduates with a broad range of experiences in different areas.
On completion of the program, Graduates will have developed a range of competencies including:
- a high level knowledge of Disability Services Queensland
- the ability to apply this knowledge to work
- the ability to research, analyse and use information effectively
- improved communication and negotiation skills
- an ability to manage their own performance effectively
- knowledge and skills to enable valuable contributions to the workgroup
- the ability to participate in and promote change
- the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively in writing
- skills to enable efficient use of equipment and systems.
Graduate Officers gain these competencies through a combination of their placement and participation in the professional development program. This will be supplemented by the establishment of mentoring relationships with senior staff and peer support to assist in consolidating learnings and adapting to public sector employment.
Applications for the 2009 Graduate Development Program are now closed.
