Our Department
Disability Services Queensland is a Queensland Government agency committed to providing leadership and support for the disability and mental health sectors and organisations providing home and community care.
We are responsible for developing policies and providing services and programs that support people with a disability, frail older people and those with a mental illness, their families and carers.
We work in partnership with non-government service providers to help support those most in need. This includes providing:
- accommodation support services
- community services
- respite services
- home and community care.
The accommodation support services we provide are designed to support people with a disability to have choice and to live as independently as possible.
Community services we provide are designed to support people with a disability to develop and apply their ability and pursue their potential for social independence within their community.
The respite services we provide are designed to support families and carers in their caring role.
The Home and Community Care program aims to support older people and also younger people with disabilities to continue living in their community.
Disability Services Queensland is part of a larger portfolio of agencies that includes the Department of Communities, Smart Service Queensland and Multicultural Affairs Queensland. The portfolio also has responsibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy, engagement and service delivery.
